[June 12, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted rain and thunderstorms over large swaths of the country on Tuesday, including a severe weather system stretching from the Great Lakes to New England.

Thunderstorms packing potentially damaging winds were possible from eastern New York to Maine as part of a system stretching from the eastern Great Lakes into New England.

In the upper Midwest, Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, widely scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected. In the South, scattered thunderstorms were expected over western and southern Texas.

Isolated severe storms, such as large hail and tornadoes, were expected in eastern Colorado and the High Plains region of western Kansas and the Texas Panhandle.

In the West, a front moving into the Great Basin and the Rockies was expected, bringing rain and thunderstorms from the coast across the Rockies.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a low of 32 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a high of 114 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
