[June 14, 2007] Today is a special day in the life of former Lincolnite Norman Schroeder. This is his last day of doing the teaching that he has loved for 40 years.

Schroeder wraps up his career with great honors. He was presented the Teacher of the Year award from Wal-Mart and Sam's Club at Plymouth, Wis., in May.

The award also meant something for the school where he has taught science for 38 years. Riverview Middle School at Plymouth was given $1,000.

Schroeder first attended a country school in Logan County in the late '40s and early '50s. Two of his former teachers from the country school still live in this area and were honored by his accomplishment.

Schroeder graduated from LCHS in 1960 and from Southern Illinois University in 1966. He received graduate scholarships to Houston, Texas, the University of Maryland and the University of Wisconsin.

He taught two years in Pekin and 38 years in Plymouth, Wis.

His children have given him a train trip in Durango, Colo., for his retirement.

Norman's sister JoAnne Marlin works for the Logan County Board.
