[June 16, 2007]  (AP) Much of the country was dry Saturday as a cold front swept through the East and moved over the Atlantic Ocean.

Yet a few areas saw showers, including northern New England, the Gulf Coast and the Northern Plains.

In the West, a strong Pacific storm system pushed into the Northwest and renewed rain showers in Washington and Oregon.

Moisture and daytime heat in the Southwest instigated scattered showers and a few thunderstorms in the region.

The Southeast and Southwest rose into the 80s and 90s, while the Northeast saw temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Northwest was in the 50s along the coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a morning low of 26 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont., to a midday high of 100 degrees at Jacksonville, Fla.
