[June 20, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted rain and thunderstorms in the Plains, New England and South Florida on Wednesday, and much of the West Coast was expected to be clear and sunny.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected across the Plains and parts of the upper Midwest, with severe storms packing hail and high wind likely from the eastern Texas Panhandle to western Oklahoma and central Kansas.

Strong to severe storms were expected in several areas along the East Coast, from South Florida to southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

Showers and thunderstorms were also expected in parts of the Ohio Valley and eastern Great Lakes later in the day.

In the West, light rain and scattered thunderstorms were expected from Washington to western Montana. The rest of the West Coast was expected to be warm and sunny.

Temperatures over parts of the Southwest were expected to climb into triple digits.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 26 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 112 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
