[June 25, 2007] The following recalls were issued June 18-21 by various federal and state agencies.

EXCESS FUEL CAN OVERFLOW IN SNOW THROWERS

Briggs & Stratton is recalling OHV Snow Thrower Engines sold nationwide from June 2000 to February 2007. When the engines are primed, excess fuel can overflow into the carburetor and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards.

The recall includes snow equipment with Briggs & Stratton OHV engines that have model numbers beginning with 12, 15, 20, or 21, and a date of manufacture (DOM) code between 000601xx and 070301xx. The engines were installed on the following brand snow throwers: Ariens, Canadiana, Craftsman, Frontier Equipment, Husqvarna, Poulan Pro, Simplicity and Snapper.

CHILDREN'S NECKLACES CONTAIN LEAD

GeoCentral is recalling Butterfly Necklaces sold nationwide from January 2006 to May 2007. The metal clasp on the necklace contains high levels of lead.

The recalled necklaces consist of a multi-colored butterfly pendant on a multi-colored seed bead 16-inch necklace. The product's packaging includes a white hang card with “GeoJewelry" printed on the front underneath “GeoCentral."

GATEWAY COMPUTER BATTERIES CAN OVERHEAT

Gateway Inc. is recalling Lithium Ion Battery Packs sold nationwide from May 2003 to August 2003. These lithium-ion battery packs can overheat, which could pose a fire hazard.

The recalled battery packs were shipped as the primary or spare battery pack for some Gateway 400VTX and 450ROG series notebooks, and are identified by part numbers: 6500760 or 6500761. The part number and “made by SMP" are printed on a label on the underside of the battery pack.

GENERATORS CAN LEAK GAS

Cummins Power Generation Inc. is recalling Stationary Natural Gas and Propane Fueled Generators sold nationwide from January 2005 to February 2007. The generator's fuel shut-off valve can fail to close, resulting in a gas leak from the unit. This poses a risk of fire and burn injuries to consumers.

The recall involves both commercial and residential model Cummins Power Generation gaseous-fueled stationary generator sets (fueled by propane or natural gas). They have the following model numbers listed on the generator nameplate which is located at the front base of the unit: commercial models GGDB, GGMA/B/C, and GNAA/B/C, and residential models RS15000, RS20000, and RS30000. These units also have serial number A050734102 through L068998479 and “Cummins Power Generation" listed on the generator nameplate.

Consumers should place the Operators switch in “OFF" and maintain this status until the upgrade is completed. The local distributor or dealer should be contacted to schedule a free, on-site repair.

FIREWORKS POSE BURN AND EYE HAZARDS

Jakes Fireworks Inc. is recalling March or Die Mine/Shell Fireworks Devices sold nationwide from April 2006 to May 2006. The tubes on these fireworks devices could become loose, making the devices unstable during use. If the device tips over during use, it could pose burn and injury hazards to bystanders.

The recalled fireworks are a 500 gram mine/shell device that consists of nine, 3-inch tubes with a single fuse for ignition. The device measures 16"x16"x13" and its packaging is a dark blue cardboard label with the words “March or Die" printed in red.

Far East Imports is recalling 300 Shot Saturn Missiles Battery Fireworks sold nationwide from April 2006 to July 2006. These fireworks devices can travel in an unexpected and dangerous direction, which could pose eye and other injury hazards to bystanders.

The recalled fireworks are a 200 gram multi shot device that consists of 300 individual missiles with a single fuse for ignition. The device measures 2 1/2" by 23 7/8" by 3 1/4" and its packaging has a red and yellow label and the words “Saturn Missiles-Battery-300 Shots Finale" printed on it.

ATVS CAN LEAK FUEL 

Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling "Outlaw 525" ATVs sold nationwide from January 2007 to May 2007. The recalled ATVs may have a loose fuel valve within the fuel tank, which could cause a fuel leak and pose a fire hazard. 

The recall involves 2007 model year Polaris "Outlaw 525" ATVs. They are available in black or white. 

Consumers should contact their local Polaris dealer to determine if they have a recalled unit.

PIER 1 IMPORTS' GLASSES CAN BREAK UNEXPECTEDLY 

Pier 1 Imports is recalling Blue/Green Dual Glassware Pieces sold nationwide from January 2007 to April 2007. The glassware can crack or break unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard. 

The recalled glassware pieces involve large and small tumblers, goblets and margaritas. The bottom half of the tumblers is aquamarine and the top half is yellow. The bottom of the margaritas and the goblets is clear and the top is aquamarine and yellow. 

Consumers should return the glassware to their nearest Pier 1 Imports retail store for a refund or merchandise credit.
