[June 27, 2007]  (AP) A low-pressure system over central Canada is expected to move eastward Wednesday, carrying a cold front through the Midwest and Great Lakes region.

The slow-moving front could bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys, the Great Lakes region and the Northeast.

Stronger storms, capable of producing large hail and heavy winds, are likely to develop later Wednesday in New England, especially in northern Maine.

Eastern Wyoming and northeastern Colorado are expected to get strong storms, and isolated tornadoes and large hail are possible.

Showers and thunderstorms should persist over the Plains and East Coast, with the heaviest rainfall expected in the southern Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley. Flash floods are also possible.

Sunny, warm weather is forecast to continue everywhere in the West except western Washington, which could see light rain.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 24 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 114 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
