DECATUR --
St Mary's Hospital recently made a donation to the
Children's Museum of Illinois
toward installation of an emergency department and ambulance
exhibit. This interactive, child-size model allows a hands-on
approach in educating children about an emergency department visit.
|
A committee of seven people from the hospital and
museum developed the exhibit with the goal of preparing children for
an emergency department experience. "We are excited about our
partnership with the Children's Museum," said Kevin Kast, St. Mary's
CEO. "The exhibit is an ideal tool to help educate children about a
real-life emergency department visit and possibly minimize some of
their fears."
The exhibit includes:
-
A
child-size ambulance with a flashing light and "radio" device to
call the admitting area.
-
An
exam room with sliding curtain for privacy and patient bed,
cabinet with hand-washing sink, an eye chart, wearable scrubs,
and a height scale.
-
A
"listening" wall with heart and lung graphics and sounds.
-
An
X-ray station that simulates taking an X-ray and a view box with
real X-rays.
The exhibit opens June 30. The museum is at 55 S.
Country Club Road. For more information contact Kelly Hogan at
217-464-1300.
