Seventh-grade volleyball state championships

[March 12, 2007]  Logan County seventh-graders are dominating as teams enter final rounds of state volleyball playoffs this week.

Schools are divided into four classes by school size. Thirty-two teams (the top eight teams of each category) entered the first round and semifinal play this weekend.

Logan County had three schools enter in two classes. All three Logan County teams are still standing to enter play for state championship, second or third places on Tuesday.

Shooting for titles will be 7-1A Hartsburg-Emden and 7-2A Chester-East Lincoln.

Semifinal play in 7-2A pitted Mount Pulaski against Chester-East Lincoln, and the C-EL win knocked Mount Pulaski (19-5) into play for third place.

Also entering play for a state title is Stanford Olympia in 7-4A.

7-1A state tournament at El Paso-Gridley High School

First round:

Hartsburg-Emden 25 25
Kincaid South Fork 17 5

Semifinals:

Hartsburg-Emden 25 27
Peoria Limestone Walters 23 25

7-2A state tournament at Pawnee

First round:

Mount Pulaski 25 25
Pawnee 23 21

 

Chester-East Lincoln 25 25
Findlay Okaw Valley 22 11

Semifinals:

Mount Pulaski 19 25 12
Chester-East Lincoln 25 17 25

Mount Pulaski (19-5) plays Paris Crestwood (12-8) for third place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chester-East Lincoln (21-2) plays La Harpe (20-6) for the state title at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

7-4A state tournament at Bloomington Junior High School

First round:

Stanford Olympia 29 25
Chatham Glenwood 27 21

Semifinals:

Stanford Olympia 25 23 25
Lansing Memorial 19 25 22

Stanford Olympia (18-4) meets Channahon (15-5) for the state championship title on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
