Schonauer and Sutton compete at IHSA 3-point shootout          Send a link to a friend

[March 16, 2007]  PEORIA -- Louie Schonauer and Caleb Sutton were the first two Lincoln Railers to take the floor in state tournament action at Carver Arena. The preliminaries of the Country Companies 3-point shootout took place Thursday night in Peoria with the 64 competitors being pared down to just four finalists.

Caleb Sutton shot first for the Railers and canned eight of 15 balls from beyond the arc. Louie Schonauer shot with the second group of contestants and knocked down seven of his shots.

Unfortunately for the two Railers, other shooters were even better, ending the Railers’ run in this competition this year. Both Sutton and Schonauer advanced to the state final preliminary round by placing in the top four shooters in their regional and sectional competitions.

One sophomore, two juniors and a senior move on to the 12:30 finals at Carver Arena. The four finalists include one face familiar to the Railers, that being Justin Dehm from the Peoria Richwoods Knights. Dehm, whose team lost to the Railers in the supersectional on Tuesday night, canned 12 of 15 3-point shots to top all shooters and tie with Jamie King of Pekin in the preliminary competition.

[to top of second column]

The Class AA 3-point competition finalists are:

  1. Jim Hayes, Chicago Mount Carmel, 6-0, junior
  2. Zac Boster, Huntley, 6-1, sophomore
  3. Justin Dehm, Peoria Richwoods, 6-1, senior
  4. Jamie King, Pekin, 6-1, junior
