Auctions enable bidding online via www.proxibid.com and at state warehouse in Springfield

[March 16, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Department of Central Management Services  will host public surplus property auctions as it continues to sell items no longer needed by state government. The first auction -- with real-time online bidding -- will start at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at www.proxibid.com. The traditional live auction in the state's Surplus Property Warehouse will be on Wednesday, starting at 8 a.m.

Auction items can be previewed at the Springfield-based warehouse, located at 1924 S. 10½ St., on Monday and Tuesday, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

"Surplus property auctions are important to the state, both to sell items that Illinois government no longer needs and to generate revenue," said CMS Acting Director Maureen O'Donnell. "Online bidding expands sales opportunities and helps us to achieve top dollar for our surplus assets."

About the Department of Central Management Services:

When Gov. Rod Blagojevich was first elected in 2003, he gave CMS a simple mandate: "to run the business of government like a business." The agency continues to implement that directive by streamlining the state's internal operations, sharing resources and saving taxpayer money while improving the business functions of state government. By bringing private-sector discipline to its public-sector mission, the department leads the cost-effective administration of purchasing, property management, information technology, telecommunications, internal audit and outside legal services for the state's executive agencies; personnel and benefits for all state employees and retirees; and the state's employee and vendor diversity programs.
