[May 02, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Light lunch bingo

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor the "light lunch" bingo on Thursday at The Oasis. The lunch will be at noon and bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Bring a friend and come join the fun.

Low-vision support group

The low-vision support group will meet at the senior center on Monday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet Monday, beginning at 2 p.m. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, adding a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, call 732-6132.

VA announcement

Veterans, if you have a service-connected disability rated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and have a current letter from the VA stating that you are in receipt of compensation or pension from the department, you are entitled to a free Illinois hunting and fishing license. The letter must be dated within one year of the request for the license and the proper paperwork must be in place. This license will now be issued as an indefinite license. You will no longer be required to renew your license on a yearly basis. The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs would like for you to continue to come in and be updated yearly. Thank you.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for May 8 features chicken alfredo with pasta, peas, garlic bread, dessert and a drink for $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. The deadline is noon Monday.

Oasis bingo and raffle

The Oasis hosts bingo and a raffle every Tuesday evening at the Lincoln Park District headquarters. The games are open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the games start at 6:50. Food is available. The "coverall" jackpot is worth $500 within a certain number of balls called. The senior center also has several progressive jackpots from $150 to $1,000. All proceeds are used to support the programs and activities conducted at the local senior center.

Winners for the week announced

Lucky Eichner, Linda Hughes and Larry Van Bibber were the weekday pinochle card game winners. Adam Bick, Joyce Voyles, Helen Opperman and Lucky Eichner were the weekend winners for pinochle. Ella Lee Graney was the rummy winner. Congratulations.
