Senate president thwarting the will of the people

[May 03, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- One member of the Senate has been thwarting the will of the people.

Senate President Emil Jones of Chicago is pulling out all the stops to block the rights of duly elected Illinois senators and representatives and the millions of people they represent.

The media has widely reported the Senate president’s blatant maneuvering April 20 to overturn a majority vote by the Senate and effectively quash much-needed rate relief for utility customers across Illinois.

However, the power grab does not stop there. During the week, Jones has issued a series of orders that effectively block any future action on legislation sponsored by Republicans, including House bills that passed with bipartisan support in the House.

The behavior of the Senate president as well as the Senate Democratic lawmakers who are blindly following him is an embarrassment. People elect their lawmakers to do their business. My Senate Republican colleagues and I will continue to do that.
