Lincoln College Rotaract club honors family while walking for MS          Send a link to a friend

[May 08, 2007]  Lincoln College Rotaract club members participated in the MS Walk on Sunday at Kickapoo Park in Lincoln, where they raised over $600 to help fight multiple sclerosis and remembered a family member of a former Rotaract secretary.

The Lincoln College Rotaract club became involved with the MS Walk after learning that the father of a former student, Francine Lazar, has multiple sclerosis. Lazar's father, Stewart Lazar of Streamwood, along with the entire Lazar family, means a lot to the Lincoln College Rotaract, especially since Francine lost her battle to cancer this year.

The team name this year was "Lazar's Lynx" in order to honor the entire Lazar family. At the graduation ceremony May 12, the family will be presented with the degree that their daughter earned.

The group of walkers consisted of Tavish Johnson of Springfield, ReJeana Beer of Waverly, Sean Higgins of Mount Zion, Amber Lutz of Melvin, Brittany Burdette of Rantoul, Joe Taylor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Justin Hale of Bloomington, Heather Talkington of Hume and Erin Bergeon of Green Bay, Wis.

"I am very proud of the effort and dedication shown by this group of students," said Michelle Bauer, club sponsor and Lincoln Rotarian. "They exemplify the principles of Rotaract and Rotary, not only at Lincoln College but throughout the community of Lincoln."
