[May 10, 2007]  PEORIA -- The River City Air Expo 2007 will kick off this year's festivities with their fifth annual Wing-Off Party. The doors of the event will open on Friday at 4:30 p.m., in the Hotel Pere Marquette. This year will mark the fifth year that the air show brings the Wing-Off to Peoria and the sixth year since the Prairie Air Show has landed at the Greater Peoria Regional Airport.

This annual event gathers restaurateurs from the area to test their culinary skills and to see "whose wings fly in Peoria." Two awards are presented annually. One is the Judge's Choice, which is awarded by a panel of local "celebrity" judges. The other is the People's Choice award, which is decided by the general public attending the event.

This year's participants, including the two-year defending champions, Hammers, will gather in the Marquette and Cotillion Room at the Pere Marquette. Trying to end the reign of Hammers: Hooters, inPlay, Kelleher's Irish Pub, TnT's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Castaways, General's Fish and Chicken, Smo-King Pit BBQ, Euro Jack's, and Old Chicago.

Wing tasting will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a $5 donation at the door. JMP radio group will conduct live remotes from the location, and the crowd will be entertained by the sounds of Just Kickn' It. There will be a cash bar serving Budweiser and Pepsi products.

River City Air Expo 2007 is slated for July 20-22 at the Greater Peoria Regional Airport. For the first time, tickets for this year's River City Air Expo will be available for sale during the Wing-Off. After the Wing-Off, tickets will be available for sale online and at the following locations: Challenger Learning Center, Bloomington; Prairie Aviation Museum, Bloomington; Schnucks Food Stores, five locations; Southside Bank, 11 locations; and at the gift shop at the Greater Peoria Regional Airport. Ticket prices for adults are $10 in advance, $12 at the gate; for children ages 6-12, $6 in advance and $8 at the gate; and children 5 and under are admitted free.

The River City Air Expo planning committee is also pleased to announce the addition of several new, exciting performers to the July lineup. Among them, the U.S. Navy F-18C Hornet Tactical Demonstration Team will be displaying the amazing precise maneuvers of the F-18 Hornet. The U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper East Tactical Demonstration Team will also be showing the amazing abilities of the F-16 fighter jet. The Viper East team will then team up with Brad Hood and a P-51 for an awe-inspiring Heritage Flight. Pete Jacobs will then take off in Angel 7, an L-39C that puts on a spectacular display. Its "smoke-on" high-speed run, its "pull" to the near-vertical, its slow and dirty pass, and its graceful rolling maneuvers are sure to wow and please the crowd. The last addition is Mark Peterson in his P-51 Mustang called Diamondback, a rare treat for an air show crowd. The flight demonstration of Diamondback is designed to showcase the speed and grace of the Mustang and give the audience an opportunity to hear the mighty Merlin roar at over 350 mph.
