[May 30, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Low-vision support group

The low-vision support group meets at The Oasis on Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. This support group provides information and updates on vision support.

Meeters and Greeters

The Meeters and Greeters group will meet Monday, beginning at 2 p.m. This group of volunteers visits once a month with those who cannot get out, adding a bright spot in their life. If you would like to participate or would like more information, call The Oasis at 732-6132.

Red Hat group

The Oasis Belles will meet Tuesday at the senior center, beginning at 11 a.m. If you are staying for lunch, please call for a reservation by noon Monday.

Rules of the Road

The secretary of state's office continues to offer a Rules of the Road course free of charge to all interested parties. The course is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m. The course is designed to assist individuals who may have to take a written exam or the behind-the-wheel test.

Hearing screening

The Oasis will have free hearing checks on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, sponsored by the Hearing Aid Center, with Joyce Dearth, B.C.H.I.S. To schedule an appointment, please call The Oasis at 732-6132.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for June 5 features sloppy joes, macaroni salad, chips, dessert and a drink for $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay to play cards. Deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week announced

Linda Hughes was the weekday pinochle card game winner. Pauline Boward and Harold Goodman were the weekend winners for pinochle. The winners at five-in-one were Betty Burger and Linda Hughes. The rummy winner was Ruth Barry. Congratulations.
