[May 31, 2007] (AP) A line of storms stretching the length of the Plains marched east early Thursday, while both coasts were clear and sunny.

Rain and thunderstorms were predicted from Texas to Minnesota as a low pressure system sweeps through. Forecasters expect severe weather from northern Texas to central Kansas.

Aside from some showers and late-season high- elevation snow in the Northern Rockies, the West was to be dry.

A large high-pressure system was to keep much of the Eastern third of the country dry, although scattered showers and some thunderstorms were possible in the Southeast.

Southern Florida may also experience some showers, which will be a welcome sign to the drought-stricken area.

Temperatures in the Northeast and Southeast will rise into the 70s and 80s. The Rockies will rise into the 40s, 50s and 60s, while the Southwest will see temperatures in the 90s and 100s. California will rise into the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Ely, Nev., to a high of 95 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
