[November 01, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- Effective Nov. 1, Central Illinois Economic Development Corp. will resume providing transportation service funded by the Older Americans Act Title III to Logan and Mason County residents who are 60 years of age or over. CIEDC's pilot program ended Oct. 31 and refocuses its efforts on working with Logan and Mason County seniors.

Julie Hubbard, executive director of the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, stated: "We very much appreciate Senior Citizens of Logan County's provision of interim transportation service within Logan County, and Mason County Health Department's continued interest in working to find ways to meet the transportation needs of older residents in Mason County. Title III grant funds are being transferred to CIEDC, largely based on its ability to help meet the demand for non-emergency medical trips to areas outside these two counties. The total amount of grant funds for Logan and Mason counties for fiscal year 2008 (Oct. 1 through Sept. 30) is $49,549. Obviously, it is important that all available resources are utilized and coordinated to help older adults reach their necessary destinations."

The purpose of Title III services is to help older adults live independently in their own homes as long as possible. However, grant funds are limited and trips will be prioritized; it may not be possible to meet all requests at all times.

Rides can be requested by calling CIEDC at 732-2159, ext. 240.

While there is no charge for Title III services, riders are given the opportunity to make voluntary contributions to the program. CIEDC's suggested donation for local trips is $2 and somewhat higher for longer trips. All contributions will stay with the program and be used to sustain the service.
