[November 02, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted clear skies around much of the country Friday, but showers were possible along the North Carolina coast, and some rain could nick Washington state's Olympic Peninsula.

A few showers could make their way into the coast of North Carolina, especially in the Outer Banks. Along the East Coast, gusty winds were possible as Hurricane Noel brushes by the coast. Forecasters predicted 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall in the Outer Banks, while isolated areas of New England might see 6 inches.

In the West, showers were possible at Olympic Peninsula in Washington.

California was expected to see warmer temperatures. Southern California in particular was expected to heat up as Santa Ana winds return to the region.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday ranged from a low of 10 degrees at Big Piney, Wyo., to a high of 92 degrees at Thermal, Calif.
