[November 06, 2007]  On Oct. 28, at approximately 2:49 a.m., trooper Brian McMillen was traveling south on Dye Road approximately three-tenths of a mile south of Interstate 72. He was driving a fully marked Illinois State Police squad car with emergency equipment activated as he responded to a call to assist the Sangamon County Sheriff's Department at JD's Lounge in rural Sangamon County.

Preliminary information indicates a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Justin L. Taylor of Decatur and a 1999 Chrysler Concorde driven by Shaitan L. Cook of Decatur were traveling northbound on Dye Road.

Taylor's vehicle drove into the southbound lane, into McMillen’s path, and struck the right front corner of the squad car, which rotated 90 degrees clockwise and slid into the northbound lane of Dye Road. The squad car was then struck in the driver's door by Cook's vehicle.

Cook and a passenger, Marcos Knighten of Decatur, were transported by ambulance to St. John's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Taylor was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation by state police crash reconstruction officers.
