 The Chevrolet Express van struck the rear of a yellow 1998 John
Deere backhoe driven by Robert J. Wood II, 24, of Springfield. Wood
was driving in the right-hand lane of Route 29.
The van traveled into the right-hand ditch area and came to rest.
The driver of the van was extricated by Springfield Fire
Department and transported by America Ambulance to St. John's
Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Wood was not injured.

Department, America Ambulance, Illinois Department of
Transportation.
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
