[November 10, 2007]  Lincoln Public Library recently received a $4,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation to support the library's Summer Reading Program 2008, "Get in the Game: READ."

"This marks the second consecutive year that the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has been a principal sponsor of the library's summer reading program," according to Richard Sumrall, Lincoln Public Library director. "Thanks to the generosity of the foundation and the support of the local factory in Lincoln, the library will be able to continue its mission to provide high-quality summertime programs and services to the youth of our community. We appreciate the foundation's participation and its shared goal with the library to make the summer reading program a memorable and educational experience for everyone involved."

The grant funds will be used to provide professional entertainment for families at Thursday events, purchase prizes for top readers, provide a rug for the story time room and a cart for the Lapsit program.

"Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation is proud to support our local communities," said Karen Johnson, the foundation's president. "Supporting organizations such as Lincoln Public Library, which have such a positive impact on the quality of life here, is a great opportunity for us to help make a difference. By embracing giving as part of our business philosophy, we believe we are making Lincoln a better place to work and live."

Lincoln Public Library Youth Services provides the Summer Reading Program for all community youth ages 6 months through teens. Eight area elementary schools participate by setting reading goals for their students. While teens plan their own requirements for the summer, younger children are grouped according to age levels, with goals set by parents.

The mission of the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, established in 1948, is to enhance the quality of life in communities where Weyerhaeuser has a significant presence and to increase understanding of the importance and sustainability of forests and the products they provide that meet people's needs.

Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the world's largest forest products companies, was incorporated in 1900 and continues a legacy of giving. In addition to awarding grants from its foundation, Weyerhaeuser contributes leadership, time and talent to community-minded agencies through corporate donations, sponsorships and volunteerism. Additional information about Weyerhaeuser's businesses, products and practices is available at www.weyerhaeuser.com.
