[November 19, 2007]  On Friday, CIEDC celebrated the volunteers that make the Foster Grandparent program a success. During a Thanksgiving luncheon at the Lincoln Park District, over 60 Foster Grandparent volunteers from seven central Illinois counties enjoyed a Thanksgiving luncheon and time to socialize.

Seniors aged 60 or better are able to participate in the Foster Grandparent program. The volunteers spend time at local Head Start centers, preschools, day cares and schools to assist in the classroom. For their time, the volunteers receive a small stipend and mileage reimbursement to drive to their assigned location.

Paula Gregg has administered the CIEDC program for over 20 years.

"The CIEDC Foster Grandparents and Grandmas always say that the program makes a difference in their lives. Spending time with the children is something to look forward to," said Angela Stoltzenburg, CIEDC executive director.

The CIEDC Foster Grandparent program is always looking for new Foster Grandparents in Logan, Mason, Menard, Macon, Piatt, DeWitt and Fulton counties. Interested individuals should call 217-732-2159, ext. 237, for more information.

CIEDC is a Community Action agency serving six central Illinois counties. For more information, visit www.ciedc.org. The agency's programs for senior nutrition and transportation receive local support and are also funded primarily through the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland.
