Dorothea Lauer

[November 25, 2007]  Dorothea L. Lauer, 88, of Bloomington, formerly of Lincoln, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at 9 p.m. at Martin Health Center, Westminster Village, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Lauer was a retired teacher. She had taught at Blue Grass School and was a substitute teacher in Lincoln schools.

She was born April 29, 1919, in Lincoln to Harve and Sarah Fisher Harness. She married Carl G. Lauer on Feb. 8, 1942, in Lincoln. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2001.

She is survived by two sons, Carl A. Lauer of Bloomington and Dean H. (and Sharon) Lauer of Valparaiso, Ind., and two grandsons, Dan (and Natasha) Lauer of Chicago and Ryan Lauer of Gilbert, Ariz.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, where she was elected as the first deaconess, taught Sunday school, served on the church council and was a member of the Charity Guild.

She received an associate degree from Illinois State Normal University.

She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, as well as a faithful and caring friend.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or Westminster Village Foundation.
