[November 24, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted heavy rain in Texas and snow in New Mexico on Saturday, while temperatures were expected to be cooler around much of the country.

Heavy rain was expected from Texas through the lower Mississippi Valley. Close to a foot of snow was on tap for mountainous regions of New Mexico and lesser totals in parts of western Texas and Kansas.

Cold air was expected to move into much of the country, including the southern Plains, Great Basin, Mississippi Valley, Great Lakes and Northeast.

Temperatures in the Upper Midwest were expected to rise into the 30s, while the Plains was expected to see temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Rockies will rise into the 20s and 30s.

A front may bring some light showers to the Northwest, where temperatures were expected to be in the 30s and 40s. California was expected to see temperatures in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of minus 13 degrees at Phillipsburg, Mont., to a high of 85 degrees at Miami.
