Drugs seized south of Lincoln on I-55       Send a link to a friend

[October 03, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- District 9 Illinois State Police troopers had a significant drug seizure on Friday. Approximately 2 pounds of cannabis was seized south of Lincoln during a traffic stop on Interstate 55.

At 4:17 p.m. a state trooper stopped Jerome M. Wilson, 28, of Normal at milepost 123 for a minor traffic violation.

During the traffic stop a K-9 unit walked around the vehicle and the K-9 gave a positive indication for drugs. A search was then performed on the vehicle. The trooper discovered approximately 2 pounds of cannabis and a stolen handgun.

Wilson was placed under arrest and remanded to the Logan County Jail. He was charged with possession of cannabis greater than 500 grams, cannabis trafficking, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The public is reminded that anyone is presumed innocent until charges are proven in a court of law.
