IDOT driver surprised to find man in sleeping bag after running over it          Send a link to a friend

[October 11, 2007]  Text from Illinois State Police report:

LOCATION: I-55 at the Stevenson Dr Interchange

DATE/TIME: 10/10/07, 1:48 pm

PERSONS INVOLVED: Jesse Matthew Johnson, age 46, hometown unknown

NARRATIVE: On 10/10/07, at 1:48 pm, an IDOT employee was checking the grassy area which is surrounded by Stevenson Drive, I-55 Southbound, and the ramp which carries traffic between I-55 and Stevenson Drive.

Unbeknownst to the IDOT employee, 46 year old Jesse Matthew Johnson was asleep inside a sleeping bag near stands of brush and trees. The IDOT pickup ran over the sleeping bag causing injury to Mr. Johnson. The IDOT employee immediately stopped and checked the sleeping bag and discovered Johnson inside of the bag. Medical assistance was summoned to the scene.

Johnson was transported to St. John's Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
