Deer cause two accidents with injuries Tuesday evening          Send a link to a friend

[October 11, 2007]  SPRINGFIELD -- District 9 Illinois State Police attended to one vehicle vs. deer incident at 6:55 p.m. and another at 7:28 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a motorcyclist collided with a deer. Stephen G. Brady, 55, of Petersburg was riding a black 2004 Harley-Davidson XL Sportster on Route 97, south of State Park Road near Petersburg. A deer ran onto the roadway from left to right. Brady was unable to avoid hitting the deer.

He was transported to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

The second incident took place on Route 78 northbound, south of Holt Road near Jacksonville. A deer ran into the roadway, striking the front bumper of a vehicle driven by 86-year-old James G. Tucker of Literberry. Tucker suffered injuries when his car exited the roadway to the right, striking a concrete culvert in the east ditch.

He had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported by Jacksonville Ambulance to Passavant Area Hospital. From there he was airlifted to St. John's Hospital by Lifestar Ambulance Service.
