(10:07 a.m. Thursday announcement)

[October 18, 2007]   Officials continue to monitor the weather situation. The prime threat continues to fall from noon until midafternoon Thursday. The Storm Prediction Center has moved the moderate threat area eastward to a Macon-DeWitt County line, but Logan County remains in the slight chance area.

We will see some strong wind today, with gusts as high as 45 mph, but these should subside as the cold front passes.

If anyone knows of damage from early Thursday morning or of measured rain amounts, Terry Storer at the Logan County EMA would appreciate that information.

(3:35 p.m. Wednesday announcement)

[October 17, 2007]  Information from National Weather Service conference call:

Two waves of severe weather are expected on Thursday.

1. 3-7 a.m. Thursday -- Storms will develop and move rapidly northeast at 40-50 mph. The primary threat will be damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. Brief heavy rain is possible.

Late morning may see partly sunny skies.

2. Noon-3 p.m. -- Storms will rapidly develop around noon. The primary threat will be large hail, straight-line winds from downbursts and possible strong, long-track tornadoes.

If the cold front moves faster than forecast, the threat will shift to the east.

All agencies should monitor NOAA Weather Radio and commercial broadcasts for updates and possible watches and warnings.

Spotters should expect activation during the next 24 hours, especially Thursday noon to 3 p.m.

Severe weather possible on Thursday          Send a link to a friend

(Tuesday afternoon announcement)

[October 16, 2007]  Current trends indicate a possible severe weather event to affect central Illinois on Thursday afternoon and evening. The primary threat appears to be high winds and hail developing from "supercell" storms that will move into central Illinois during the afternoon on Thursday. Atmospheric dynamics are such that we may not see the storms diminish during the evening as has been the case this spring and summer. Given the instability, the possibility of tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Agencies should monitor the National Weather Service and commercial broadcast stations during the day Thursday to maintain situational awareness and prepare for possible warnings.

Should the threat develop as forecast, the Logan County Emergency Management Agency will issue updates during the day Wednesday and Thursday.
