[October 18, 2007]  (AP) Heavy rain and strong thunderstorms pounded the Great Plains, producing large hail and damaging winds in Oklahoma and Kansas.

A tornado was reported in eastern Texas, and showers and thunderstorms were also widespread in the Mississippi Valley.

Strong winds blew through the southern Rockies and western Plains. Scattered showers and high-elevation snow fell on the West Coast.

The Northeast rose into the 60s and 70s, while the Southeast and southern Plains rose into the 80s and 90s. The Rockies rose into the 40s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 40s and 50s.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states ranged from 19 degrees at Bryce Canyon, Utah, to 96 degrees at Falfurrias, Texas.
