[October 22, 2007]  ST. PETERSBURG, Mo. -- Illinois State's swimmers and divers took a first-place finish over Lindenwood with a score of 171-75 Saturday. Freshman Ashley Bachler, senior Kathleen Borkovec, sophomore Lindsay Dinkelman, freshman Molly Gomberg, senior Katie Janonis, freshman Amy Schaefer and seniors Christine Steinbach and Valarie Zaleski all claimed first-place finishes in their respective events.

Head coach Steve Paska was happy with the team's overall performance.

"I am very proud of how the team competed," said Paska. "They were prepared for each race, and several individuals broke their season-best and personal-best times. It was great to come out to Missouri and see past swimmers and potential recruits."

Bachler, Byron, sophomores Catharine Danenhower and Caitlin Falconer, and Schaefer all had personal-best scores, and Dinkelman and Gomberg had season-best swims.

"Amy (Schaefer) had a double win today and had a very consistent performance," Paska said. "She had a personal-best time in the 200-yard IM and a season-best time in the 500-yard freestyle. Emily Richardson also had a solid performance today. She is coming back from an injury and is taking a step in the right direction."

Paska believes the team is prepared for the competition next weekend.

"We had very solid performances today," Paska said. "This will help us prepare for next weekend, when we host Evansville at home on Friday evening."

Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann was also pleased with the divers’ performances.

"Overall it was a good contest for the divers," said Hoffmann. "I am looking forward in getting the whole diving team together for the competition tomorrow."

The Redbird divers continued the weekend by competing at the UIC Diving Invitational on Sunday, taking on host UIC, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, ITT and Northwestern at Flames Natatorium.
