[October 24, 2007]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Nominations accepted for Oasis board members

Nominations are being accepted for the Oasis board of directors. A nominating committee has been appointed and empowered by the board to present candidates to serve on the board for a three-year term. Members wishing to present candidate names for consideration must do so in writing, either hand-delivered to The Oasis or postmarked by Nov. 1. The nominating committee will review each candidate prior to presenting a slate of nominees for 2008.

Light lunch bingo

St. Clara's Manor will sponsor the "light lunch bingo" at The Oasis on Thursday, beginning at noon. Lunch will consist of sandwiches and treats. Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Bring a friend and win some prizes.

Blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free blood pressure checks every Friday between 10 and 11:30 a.m. No appointment necessary.

Muncheon Luncheon

The senior center's Muncheon Luncheon will be on Monday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. It will be cook's choice. Suggested donation is $1.

AARP safe driving class

A driver safety program for seniors age 55 and older will be offered Monday and Tuesday, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. both days. AARP sponsors the class, and participants pay a $10 fee the day of the class to cover supplies. To make a reservation, please call 732-6132.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for Oct. 20 will feature goulash, salad, bread and butter, and dessert for $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.

Bingo at the Rec

There will be no Tuesday night Oasis bingo at the Lincoln Park District Rec Center on Oct. 30. Activities will resume the following Tuesday.

Winners for the week announced

Bernie Haley and Eleanor Barton were weekday pinochle winners. Weekend pinochle winners were Marjorie Reiners and Henry Warnisher. Congratulations.
