Two
Motorists Charged With Aggravated DUIs
[October 29, 2007]
SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois State
Police District 9 Trooper Brian McMillen was involved in a fatal
traffic crash early Sunday while responding to a request by a local
officer for assistance. The crash occurred on Dye Road approximately
0.3 mile south of Interstate 72 at approximately 2:49 a.m. The crash
involved two additional vehicles.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were Justin L. Taylor, 22, of
Decatur, who has been charged with aggravated DUI and improper lane
usage, and Shaitan L. Cook, 28, of Decatur, who has been charged
with aggravated DUI. McMillen graduated from Cadet Class 113 on
Feb. 2, 2007, as the class president.
It is important to note that he not only served the residents and
visitors of the state of Illinois; he also was a proud member of the
Illinois Air National Guard as a tech sergeant with 183rd Security
Forces Squadron Fighter Wing. He enlisted in the Illinois Air
National Guard in 2000 and served three overseas deployments during
his tenure, the first being in 2002 when he served in Saudi Arabia
as part of Operation South Watch. The second occurred in 2003 when
he was deployed to Romania as part of Iraqi Freedom. Finally, in
2005, he was deployed to Italy.
McMillen grew up in Pana. After high school he attended the
University of Illinois at Springfield, where he received a
bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 2005. He is survived by his
wife, parents and 10 siblings.
This is truly a sad time for the Illinois State Police, the law
enforcement community and certainly for family and friends of
McMillen. Police officers throughout the country are fully aware of
the risks involved with this profession, as was McMillen. While law
enforcement personnel train to handle incidents such as these, it is
still a tragic death.
