NORMAL -- The 2007 Illinois
State Athletics Hall of Fame class was officially announced
Thursday. The class spans over 50 years of athletic achievement,
while touching three different decades in Redbird intercollegiate
athletics history. The 2007 inductees are Frank Purdy, a three-time
Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference singles and doubles
champion in men's tennis; Jackie Ryan Beck, the 1985 Gateway
Conference medalist and two time all-league selection in women's
golf; and Galen Scott, current Redbird football defensive
coordinator and the second-highest career tackler in ISU history.

In addition to the 2007 Hall of Fame class, longtime bench crew
volunteer Jan Johnson will be honored with the Campbell "Stretch"
Miller Award. The award is named for Miller, a Redbird athlete who
went on to broadcast Illinois State games in the 1940s before
joining the St. Louis Cardinals broadcasting team. The award named
in his honor celebrates the contributions of those whose main
services were not playing or coaching, but important to the
program's success. The honorees will be officially induced during
the Hall of Fame banquet at 8 a.m. Oct. 13 in the Prairie Room of
the Bone Student Center on the Illinois State University campus. The
class will also be recognized during halftime of the Illinois
State-Indiana State football game later that day. Kickoff is
scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame ceremony are $25 per person and can
be purchased through The Redbird Club office. To order tickets for
the event or for more information, please call Anne Campbell at
309-438-3803.
