[September 04, 2007]  (AP) High pressure built up over the Rockies and northern Plains early Tuesday, while storms approached the Northeast, Southeast and West Coast.

Rain from the Gulf of Mexico was to spill into the southern Plains and the Gulf Coast. Thunderstorms were forecast in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

In the West, moderate rain was predicted through the Great Basin and northern Rockies. Some rain was likely in western Washington and Oregon, mainly in the Cascade Mountains.

The Southwest will once again rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Northeast will rise into the 60s, 70s, and 80s, while the Northern Plains will see temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Northwest should rise into the 60s and 70s.

Hurricane Felix was expected to make landfall along the Honduras and Nicaragua border early Tuesday. This region can expect torrential rain and very intense winds.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states on Monday ranged from a low of 31 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
