[September 07, 2007]  ELKHART -- Elkhart Christian Church is sponsoring a hog roast benefit for COPE, the Children of Pokot Education Fund, on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Elkhart Park. The park is located at the corner of Stellar and Lanterman streets in Elkhart.

Roast pork sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, baked beans and homemade slaw will be served along with iced tea and water. Tickets at the event are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 8 years. Homemade fruit pies and cobblers will be available for $1 per piece. Carryout meals will be available.

Also appearing at the benefit will be Bill Cosby and the Bluegrass Band. The group, made up of local talent, will be playing throughout the benefit for the enjoyment of those in attendance. Bring a lawn chair to listen to the music after you're done eating.

Headquartered in Tapadany, Kenya, the mission is providing education and food for over 800 children, as well as evangelism and establishing cottage industries among the Pokot to help them survive and thrive in their impoverished and desolate region.

Barb O'Donohue, U.S. director, and John Cox, Kenyan director, will be present to answer questions.
