Lincoln American Legion Post 263, American
Legion Auxiliary Unit 263 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron
263 are creating an annual vocational scholarship, as announced by
Donny Jones, Post 263 scholarship chairman.
|
The scholarship will be awarded to a high school student who will be
attending a trade, vocational or technical institute, instead of
college, after graduation from high school. To kick off the
fundraising for the scholarship, Lincoln Post 263 will sponsor a
buffet breakfast on Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Lincoln American
Legion home, 1740 Fifth St. The menu will consist of bacon, sausage
patties, biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, potatoes,
fruit, fresh doughnuts, orange juice, milk, and coffee.
Cost of the breakfast is $7 for adults and $4 for grade school
students, with preschool free.
In addition to the breakfast, there will be a 50-50 drawing, and
chances to win a boom box will be on sale.

Details regarding criteria for awarding the scholarship will be
available, at a later date, from guidance offices at high schools
with students attending a vocational trades curriculum in
conjunction with Lincoln Community High School.
"So often, young people who want to pursue an education or
training outside of regular college are overlooked and don't have
many opportunities for financial help," Jones said. "This is a way
to show those students there is someone out there willing to help
them pursue further education outside a college environment. This
scholarship program is in the infant stage right now, but we hope to
make it a huge success and a help to future vocational students on a
continuing basis."
