The petition for a "helping hand" reads:
Humane Society of Logan County started
raising money to build a shelter in April 2006. Through dog washes,
bake sales and other monthly fundraisers we have raised over
$33,000. We also received $200,000 from a trust. A generous family
is in the process of deeding our group 2.5 acres of land for our
building. We still need to raise about $50,000 to build our shelter.
Currently our county's animal control
euthanizes hundreds of dogs and cats each year. We desperately need
a place for those animals to go.
We view this as more than just a place
where dogs and cats will be given a chance to find a permanent home.
It's a great opportunity to meet and be a part of a group of
dedicated individuals all working for the same purpose, the love of
animals. Our members come from all walks of life. This will be a
place where families can volunteer to work together, schoolchildren
can work with the elderly, college students can work with
professionals, etc., etc. The combinations are endless, the outcome
is priceless.
Our 200-plus membership is full of
great people who may have never gotten to know each other if not for
this common love of animals. With your help, we will be able to
build a shelter that will bring our community together and give the
dogs and cats a chance to find their forever home.
