[September 19, 2007]  (AP) Forecasters predicted showers and thunderstorms in much of the country on Wednesday, but the East Coast was expected to be clear and mild.

Showers and thunderstorms were expected in parts of the Southwest. In the central part of the nation, similar weather was expected from the southern Plains through the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys as well as the Great Lakes.

Heavy rain was also expected over portions of Florida.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Northwest, northern Rockies and northern California. Temperatures were expected to be cooler in the region.

In the Northeast, clear skies were expected with highs mainly in the 70s. In the Mid-Atlantic, temperatures were expected to reach into the 80s.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 21 degrees at Wisdom, Mont., to a high of 104 degrees at Death Valley, Ariz.
