Fourth seed Nikolay Davidenko defeated 10th-seed Tommy Haas 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the semifinals.
Venus Williams rallied when she had to and has reached the U.S. Open semifinals for the first time since 2002. The 12th-seeded Williams eliminated third-seed Jelena Jankovic 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 and will meet top-seed Justine Henin. Jankovic has won the first set 6-2 although Williams won the second set 6-1.
It'll be an all-Russian affair in the other U.S. Open women's semifinal. Svetlana Kuznetsova will take on Anna Chakvetadze after each advanced in quarterfinal play.
