Illinois Juco Players of the Year Named

[April 10, 2008]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois Basketball Services recently named its Illinois Juco Players of the Year for 2007-08. A men's and women's player of the year were selected from among 43 Illinois junior college basketball programs.

The IBS Illinois Men's Juco Player of the Year honor was given to Lincoln College sophomore Bobby Hill. The 6-foot-6 Hill led Lincoln to a 22-6 record overall as the program finished the season ranked No. 6 in NJCAA-DII. Hill averaged 16.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. In 2008-09 he plans to return to Illinois State, where he played his freshman season.

The Men's Newcomer of the Year was 6-foot Southeastern Illinois Community College freshman Monie Hudson, who averaged 13.4 points per game for the program, which finished the season 28-7 with an appearance in the NJCAA-DI national tournament.

For the women, it was 6-foot sophomore Abby Williams of Kankakee Community College taking IBS Player of the Year honors. Williams, who recently committed to Southern Indiana, led Kankakee to two consecutive runner-up finishes in NJCAA-DII. In 2007-08, she averaged a team-best 15.7 points to go along with 6.8 rebounds per game. Her honors in 2007-08 also included NJCAA All-American, Regional Tournament MVP, All-Region and All-National Tournament Team.

The Women's Newcomer of the Year honor was given to Illinois Central Community College's 6-foot-2 freshman Latasha Hollingshed, who averaged 14.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in 2007-08, helping lead her team to the NJCAA-DII national tournament, where the host ICC took third place.

Illinois Basketball Services also named its Illinois Juco Coaches of the Year: Danville Area Community College men's head coach Mike Carpenter and Kankakee Community College women's head coach Donnie Denson. Danville was 24-12 with a fourth-place national tourney finish. Kankakee, ranked No. 3 in NJCAA-DII, was 30-3, finishing in second place at nationals.

Illinois Basketball Services is a comprehensive package of services provided to college basketball programs of all levels (NJCAA DI-DIII and NAIA DI-DII to NCAA DI-DIII) throughout the country and has also drawn interest from Mexico, Africa, Spain, Switzerland and Jamaica, West Indies.
