[April 10, 2008]  (AP)  An intense storm was expected to move through the Plains to the Great Lakes, producing widespread precipitation Thursday.

Strong hurricanes and even tornadoes were possible from the Southern Plains through the Lower Mississippi Valley, and heavy rain and thunderstorms were expected through the Central Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley, prompting flood watches and warnings in the latter region.

Significant snow was forecast from the Central Rockies through the Upper Midwest, and scattered snow showers expected from the Intermountain West to the Central Rockies.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of  minus 4 degrees at Lake Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 97 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
