In order to become a more effective program and
encourage a more involved policy council, several Head Start parents
and Community Action staff attended the Illinois Head Start
Association's conference March 5-7.

The conference, themed
"Illinois Head Start … Shaping the Future," met in Peoria and
featured updates regarding the Head Start program, effective
parenting workshops and best practices. Michelle Schulte, Community
Action Head Start educational services manager, of Havana, presented
a workshop at the conference. Her presentation was entitled "Don't
Throw Away DAP for Outcomes." "The conference is a great time to
network and share best practices," said Angela Stoltzenburg,
executive director of Community Action. "We were especially proud to
have parents attend and Michelle Schulte present at the workshop
this spring. Parent involvement is an important part of the Head
Start program."
