[April 12, 2008]  NORMAL -- With pleasant weather around the corner, it means that it's time to hit the links once again for the annual Dr. Pegg Impact Redbird Golf Classic, formerly the Chevys Redbird Classic, which will be on May 30 at the Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University.

The festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m., when competitors can sign in and then enjoy a kickoff luncheon sponsored by Subway. Play will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start and will be played as a four-person scramble. When play is over, participants will be treated to a catered dinner sponsored by Chevys, with special guest speakers and prizes. Registration cost is $150 per player, and the field is limited to 120 entrants.

Larry Morlan, ISU director of major gifts, is the tournament director, and he hopes this year's event is as successful as previous years.

"This event continues to grow each year and playing spots fill up quicker each time," Morlan said. "We had people on a waiting list last year, and we hope that this year's signup will be just as successful. This event is always a great time for everyone involved and is definitely something we look forward to each summer."

Proceeds from the event go directly into The Redbird Club's Scholarship Fund, which supports Illinois State student-athlete scholarships. Many of the student-athletes who are supported by the event come out each year to say "thank you" to the participants, which is something that, Morlan believes, makes the event so special.

"All of the people who support the event really get excited to see exactly what their money is going toward," said Morlan. "Many of our student-athletes attend the event each year and get to talk with the people who support them. Many of the coaches and athletics department administrators are also at the event, which shows that the department as a whole really cares about the people who support it."

For more information on the event, contact Annie Campbell at 309-438-3803. Registration will also be available online at http://pegg.golfreg.com/.
