Gusty winds expected Wednesday

[April 16, 2008]  A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Piatt, Champaign, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian and Macon, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Champaign, Urbana, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville and Decatur.

Strong southerly winds will continue across the region Wednesday. Winds across the advisory area are expected to increase to 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon with gusts to near 50 mph.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph are expected, with gusts to 45 mph. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution, especially on roads oriented west to east.
