[April 24, 2008]  (AP)  Widespread areas of heavy rain were forecast Thursday from the Lower Mississippi Valley through the Upper Midwest. Powerful thunderstorms were likely across a region extending from eastern Texas through western Missouri.

Rain and high elevation snow were forecast from the Cascades to the northern Rockies as a trough of low pressure moves into the region.

Clear skies were anticipated along most of the eastern seaboard, though some isolated showers were forecast for parts of the Southeast.

Clear skies also were expected in the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 10 degrees at Scobey, Mont., to a high of 96 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
