[April 28, 2008]  Canadian high pressure will settle into the Mississippi Valley by dawn Tuesday, clearing skies and diminishing winds overnight. Freezing temperatures are likely by dawn Tuesday across much of central Illinois west of Interstate 57.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a freeze warning in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday for the counties of Knox, Stark, Peoria, Marshall, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean, Schuyler, Mason, Logan, DeWitt, Cass, Menard, Scott, Morgan, Sangamon, Christian and Macon, including the cities of Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, Havana, Lincoln, Jacksonville, Springfield, Taylorville and Decatur.

As clouds and winds decrease overnight, temperatures will cool to near record lows at or just below freezing later Monday night. This will bring a widespread freeze to central Illinois west of I-57 later Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temps are imminent or highly likely. These conditions could kill sensitive vegetation, which should be covered or brought inside.
