[August 01, 2008]  (AP)  A system moving through the Mississippi Valley was expected to trigger showers and thunderstorms across Iowa and Illinois and into the Ohio River Valley on Friday. The storms could be severe, packing strong winds, hail and heavy rain.

InsuranceShowers were forecast for the Northeast, the Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic. Severe weather could pop up along the North Carolina coast.

Mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures were expected in the West. The Southwest was to continue getting a break from monsoon conditions, though temperatures were likely to top 110 degrees. Increasing clouds, cooler temperatures and scattered showers were forecast for the Pacific Northwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 28 degrees at Stanley, Idaho, to a high of 116 degrees at Hearne, Texas.
