Play of the Day

Obama and pancakes on the go

[August 08, 2008]  ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Pancakes to go?

Barack Obama shook hands, chatted and posed for pictures as he greeted breakfast diners at The Copper Dome restaurant in St. Paul before returning home to Chicago for a day of strategy sessions and to prepare for a weeklong vacation in Hawaii.

Insurance"A stack of pancakes to go," Obama ordered as he walked from table to table.

Not the usual order for fast food. Would he get them in a plastic bag?

The pancakes were served to Obama on a plate covered with aluminum foil.

"How are we doing? Hope we didn't interrupt anything," the Democratic presidential contender said. He held a baby and told a small girl, "You're almost as good-looking as they get."

"This is where the happening people meet," Obama said at one point as the crowded restaurant became even more crowded as curious bystanders and workers from a grocery store across the street filed in.

It was the Illinois senator's only expected public appearance of the day.
