[August 08, 2008]  ATLANTA -- WLCN-FM 96.3 in Atlanta has announced the addition of the new FIX 96 to its country music format, beginning Aug. 22. FIX 96 was a popular classic rock program that ended in 2005 when WLCN changed to its current country format. The new FIX 96 features classic rock with less talk and will air during the evening hours only.

"It's amazing how many people throughout central Illinois ask me if there is a chance classic rock will ever return," said station manager Jim Ash. "So we'll have the best of both worlds. We're going to continue to play country music along with local news and farm reports during the day. Then at night we're bringing back classic rock. It's like having two radio stations for two types of audiences. Of course it works out extremely well for our advertisers as well because they can now target customers from the top two demographics in central Illinois, country and classic rock."

WLCN will still broadcast Lincoln Railer sports throughout the year. "The Railers always take priority, whichever time of day our format falls under," added Ash.

Longtime play-by-play broadcasters Bob Verderber and Ken Schweitzer will handle the Railer football season. The duo of Jeff Benjamin and Tom Larey will continue to be the basketball broadcasters.

Ash says the new FIX 96 will air 7 p.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday.

Bill Gossett's "Saturday Night Special," featuring big band and jazz, will remain in its current 6 p.m. time slot.
