[August 14, 2008]  (AP)  More thunderstorms were in store for the Plains on Thursday, with showers and storms expected from the Dakotas into western Texas. Heavy rain, strong winds, large hail and possibly tornadoes were forecast for the central and southern Plains.

CivicTemperatures were expected to be in the 70s in the northern Plains and in the 80s and 90s farther south. Showers and storms were also anticipated in the upper Midwest and mid-Mississippi Valley.

The Northeast was likely to be cloudy and wet. Showers were possible in the Ohio Valley, Pennsylvania and New England. South of Maryland, the mid-Atlantic was expected to see clearer conditions. Temperatures were forecast to range from the 70s in New England to the 80s and 90s in the Mid-Atlantic.

In the Southeast, another round of strong thunderstorms was to develop in Florida and possibly along the Gulf Coast. The storms could produce heavy rain, gusty winds and hail. The rest of the Southeast was expected to see mostly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching the 80s and 90s.

Showers and thunderstorms were forecast for the Four Corners region, while the rest of the West was to see mostly clear skies and warm conditions. Temperatures were expected to rise into the 80s and 90s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Shirley Basin, Wyo., to a high of 121 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
